WHAT THE DEPARTMENT DOES

The Education Department of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Maldives (NMCM) plays a vital role in ensuring the provision of high-quality education and training for student nurses and midwives. In addition to its regulatory functions, the department also offers various education and training services to support the development and advancement of the nursing and midwifery profession.

Indexing of Student Nurses and Midwives

Maintaining a comprehensive database of student nurses and midwives enrolled in training programs.

Syllabi Development and Review

Developing and periodically reviewing the syllabi for all nursing and midwifery programs to ensure their relevance and alignment with current healthcare standards.

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Teams

Appointing M&E teams to assess and monitor the educational standards and practices in nursing and midwifery training institutions.

Curriculum Approval

Approving curricula for all training institutions to ensure that they meet the required standards and provide comprehensive education and training for future nurses and midwives.

Accreditation of Training Institutions

Accrediting training institutions to ensure they meet the necessary criteria and provide a conducive learning environment for students.

Monitoring and Evaluation of Training Institutions

Conducting regular monitoring and evaluation activities to assess the performance and quality of education and training provided by various nursing and midwifery training institutions.

Setting Standards for Education and Training

Establishing and maintaining standards for nursing and midwifery education and training, ensuring that they are in line with international best practices.

Servicing Education and Examination Committees

Providing administrative and logistical support to education and examination committees involved in the development and administration of nursing and midwifery examinations.

Tutor Orientation

Organizing orientation programs for tutors to keep them updated on new trends, advancements, and best practices in nursing and midwifery programs.

Investigation of Training Institution Issues

Investigating any issues or concerns that may arise in training institutions and taking appropriate actions to address them, ensuring the quality and integrity of education and training.

Stakeholder Engagement

Liaising and collaborating with relevant stakeholders, both within the country and internationally, to address issues related to nursing and midwifery education and promote the advancement of the profession.
